Students are placed in the Ballet most appropriate for their age. Each division is designed to meet the instructional needs of students according to their Ballet of development. This ensures that the teaching of technique and the building of stamina and discipline parallels the physical and emotional readiness of the child. New students or their parent must consult with the Youth Program Admin before joining the Ballet I-VIII.

Youth Program Dress Code

Student Information

Attendance

  • Students are expected to be ready to start class at its scheduled time. This will require arriving sufficiently early to fully prepare for class.
  • Students must wear proper attire and hair must be fixed prior to entering the classroom. The class room is not the place to finish dressing or to complete hair arrangement.
  • If a student arrives late he or she must not enter the classroom while the music is playing. The students must wait until the music stops, then must step inside the doorway and must wait until acknowledged by the teacher.
  • Students arriving more than 10 minutes after the start of class may not be allowed to participate in class, but may be allowed to observe at the discretion of the instructor. The observer must not act in ways which will distract the other students, or she/he will be asked to leave the classroom.
  • Students are expected to take all classes assigned to their given Ballet.
  • Notification of a planned absence must be submitted via email prior to the absence. In the event of unplanned absences or if email is not accessible, phone notification will be accepted.
  • Any schedule changes made after registration must be done by contacting the Youth Program Admin. Students are allowed one free schedule change per year. Students will be charged a $15 administrative fee for each schedule change following the first.

Make-Up Classes

  • Students must completely and accurately fill out and turn in a Make-Up Waiver to an Administrative Staff Member before entering the class. Make-Up Waivers are located in the lobby.
  • Students in Pre-Ballet I-IV may make up a class in their Ballet Level. Students in Ballet I – VIII should make up a class in a Ballet below where they are enrolled.
  • Absences that were excused prior to the missed class may be made-up up to 30 days after the missed class. All other absences are categorized as unexcused and may be made-up up to 14 days after the missed class.
  • Students may make-up classes a maximum of 3 times per semester. (Semester I: September – December, Semester II: January – June)
  • Make up classes may only be taken the same session that the class was missed. Students attending a class with yearly enrollment must make up the class within the same semester as the class missed.
  • Students must be currently enrolled to make up classes. Students who are no longer enrolled in the class (ie. session ended and did not re-register, withdrawal,etc.) are no longer considered students of the school and forfeit all make up classes.

Office Policy

  • Students will respect that the School lobby and office area are work places and students will conduct themselves appropriately, talking quietly and keeping the lobby area clean.
  • Western Ballet is not staffed to provide child care after the completion of class. Students must be picked up within one-half hour after the end of their session.
  • Families will be billed $25.00 per each half-hour or fraction there of that an instructor or office staff-member must remain with a child.

Observation

Onlookers are not allowed to stand in the doorway of the classrooms or to peer through windows. This disrupts the class by distracting the students and the instructor. Permission to observe graded classes other than those specifically designated for observation may be obtained by special arrangement with the office and should be scheduled in advance. Observation Week dates are listed in the School Calendar. Parents, family and guests are allowed in the lobby only.

Tuition Information

Discounts

For families with two or more children enrolled in the Youth Program, a discount of 10% will be applied to the lesser tuition(s).

Refunds

Tuition is not refunded for missed classes. Please see our policy below on withdrawal; email or call the office to arrange for a make-up class.

Withdrawals

Enrollment is for a full school-year program. The office must be notified of a withdrawal in writing.
Failure to attend class does not constitute a withdrawal. Withdrawals are fully acceptable in the case of a family move or student injury. Other cases should be discussed with the Artistic Director or the Youth Program Admin before a final decision is made. Tuition will continue to accrue and the parent or guardian is responsible for this amount until written notice is received. After written notice is received, the refund will be pro-rated from the first of the new month. Tuition refunds will not be held as credit or carried on into the next school year. Please allow four weeks for refunds to be processed.
For withdrawals announced before October 31st other than the accepted reasons listed above, a pro-rated refund will be given.
