About Western Ballet

Founded in 1976, WesternBallet makes the performing art of classical ballet accessible to the general public. A non-profit institution, Western Ballet has a complete youth program for children and pre-professional teenagers, including a Scholarships for underprivileged children, and the largest selection of adult classes in the San Francisco Peninsula and South Bay. Striving to create a welcoming and caring environment since becoming Artistic Director in 2007, Alexi Zubiria is building a school that draws from all young children with potential, through the Scholarships program. Our youth program functions as the heart of the institution, because of its vital educational function and its capacity to generate professional dancers. Our strong adult program brings a large number of adults close to ballet, who explore the art seriously and recreationally. Ballet. Western Ballet, the Mountain View Ballet Company and School, is proud to have taught and performed in our home of Santa Clara County, California for over thirty years. We strive for excellence in dance education and high quality performances. We offer our students the finest studio facilities available in the Bay Area, class pianists, and an outstanding staff of professionally trained faculty with a teaching style that brings out the creativity and individuality in young artists. We employ methods from American, Russian and European schools, offering dance training that is the equal to any in the world. Many of our young dancers have gone on to join companies such as the American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater and other prominent international companies. We strive to create an environment that grooms young artists for professional careers, providing the best possible training and performance experience, bringing out each dancer's personal best. Our full length ballets at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts continue to delight audiences from our surrounding community, and have been highly praised in Bay Area press "...you can venture to professional performances of the San Francisco or San Jose-Cleveland Ballet's companies, but I will bet you won't find a more delightful or satisfying production of Peter Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" than Western Ballet's rendition..."
