About Western Ballet
Founded in 1976, Western
Ballet makes
the performing art of classical ballet accessible to the general
public. A non-profit institution, Western Ballet has an extensive
youth program for children and pre-professional teenagers, including
the new Nina Novak Ballet Scholarships for underprivileged children,
and the largest selection of adult classes in the San Francisco
Peninsula and South Bay. Debuting in 2010 under Artistic Director
Alexi Zubiría,
Western Ballet Company features classical ballet with a Latin style.
Striving to create a welcoming and caring environment
since becoming Artistic Director in 2007, Alexi Zubiría
is building a school that draws from all young children with potential
(through the Nina Novak Ballet Scholarships) and connects closely with
a
professional chamber group (Western Ballet Company and productions like
"Danzón!"). Our youth
program functions as the heart of the institution, because of its vital
educational function and its capacity to generate professional dancers.
Our strong adult program brings a
large number of adults close to ballet, who explore the art seriously
and recreationally. Our professional company showcases the excellence
of classical ballet combined with the unique cultural style of Latin
America. Our faculty of current and former professional dancers provide
the strong foundation that underlies all these activites at Western
Ballet.
