WESTERN BALLET
COMPANY Reshapes Classical Ballet
With LATIN AMERICAN Motifs in a Debut Performance on Friday, July 23.
"Danzón!" inaugurates Western Ballet Company
as a home of
both celebrated classics and new ballets by Latin American artists.
Mountain View, CA (June 23,
2010) – Western Ballet Company features choreography and music by
distinguished artists from Latin America in a one-night-only
performance of "Danzón!" on Friday, July 23, 2010, at 8 PM at
the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. This production
showcases the power and passion of classical ballet from Latin America,
inaugurating Western Ballet Company as a home of outstanding works by
Latin American choreographers and composers.
"Danzón!" highlights
the masterwork "Fiebre" ("Fever") by the venerated Venezuelan
choreographer Vicente Nebrada, as well as music by the legendary
composers Teresa Carreño of Venezuela, Arturo Marquez of Mexico
and Ástor Piazzolla of Argentina.
The performance will thrill
audiences with stirring rhythms, captivating energy and the
unrestrained expression of the Latin American style, which no other
culture in the world can claim.
Said Alexi Zubiría,
Western Ballet Company's artistic director, "Vicente created his
choreography well above the realm of classical ballet – in the world of
neoclassicism where the lines of the body extend together with the
emotions. In doing so, he mastered the art of the pas de deux."
Zubiría continued,
"Our dancers in Danzón! are therefore challenged to interpret
Nebrada's neoclassical works using, as much as their technical
abilities, the expressiveness of their movements. With Danzón!
we are reshaping classical ballet into a neoclassical form with Latin
American undertones, in order to convey the love, desire and intimacy
of our lives."
He said, "Regardless of your
age, social background, education, or experience with ballet, our
dancing will connect with you in a powerful way. Our stories embody the
deep human emotions that we all experience."
"Danzón!" unites
human emotion and expert technique in a mixed program of four works.
Western Ballet Company
presents "Danzón!" at the Mountain View Center for the
Performing Arts on Friday, July 23, 2010, at 8 PM.
